Lots of 1st's

This past week has been busy in my neighbourhood with little ones celebrating their 1st birthdays.

My neighbour's little girl Brooke was first to celebrate.  I made her a one-tier cake with a cupcake on top (that was later her smash cake) with a cute little spotted worm and ladybug.  Here is Brooke with her cake and later tasting her smash cake.

Singing Happy Birthday to Brooke

A first taste of icing

The next day, on Mother's Day, it was my twin girls' 1st birthday.  I made them a two-tiered  pink and green topsy turvy cake.  It was topped with two pink butterflies and decorated with pretty flowers.

Here are the girls while we sang Happy Birthday to them.

After we sang, they got to sample their first cakes.

They were a little cautious at first, but eventually dug into their cupcakes.

Can I touch it Mommy?

I think Abby loves icing!

Does she look a little guilty?

The following week, another neighbour down the street celebrated his 1st birthday too.  Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of him with his cake, but here is the cake.  It is the Backyardigans.  I modelled the five characters from the show.

Hi! I love this cake. Would you mind sharing any tips on how to get that rainbow swirled effect on your fondant?
